Pastor Jordan Bird began serving at Talatha Baptist in Aiken, South Carolina in 2015. Since then, the church has sought ways to intentionally raise up pastors to launch into church revitalization or replanting. Pastor Bird suggested that churches of any size looking to hire another full-time staff person should “consider looking for somebody who already knows they want to be a senior pastor.” Pastor Bird said, “that way the church is already investing in them, planning to send them out, can help them with seminary, and sees it as an investment. Then when they leave, the church is not discouraged that a well-loved staff person is leaving, the church is encouraged that a well-loved staff person is leaving to go out and do good ministry work.”
