Immediate needs have arisen for DR volunteers in two different areas.

Guam

DR teams from various states are needed to serve in Guam in response to damage from Typhoon Mawar. This is in coordination with Send Relief and FEMA. SCBaptist DR is looking to send at least one team.

Key points:

• Plans are still in the works – there is very limited information at this point.
• The response will occur over a 3-month period from July – October.
• Each team would need to commit to 7-14 days in Guam in addition to travel days.
• Team/team members would be reimbursed by FEMA for airfare.
• Housing and food would be provided.
• Each team would need to be 4-8 people in size.
• The biggest need is for mud-out work and possibly some roofing.
• No passport is needed as Guam is a US territory.
• Project coordinators will be John & Gay Williams, DR Directors for the Hawaii-Pacific Convention, of which Guam is a part.

Greece

Teams of 4-6 volunteers each are needed in Athens, Greece in July & August. These are remodel teams for a new community center that will interact with locals and refugees. Team 1 is filled; specific requests for Teams 2-4 are as follows:

Team 2: July 22-29
1 electrical experience, 1 plumbing experience, 2-4 general helpers  

Team 3: July 29-August 5
framing and drywall skills + general helpers

Team 4: August 5-12
tiling, painting, general construction

Cost estimate for each deployment

•               $   420             7 days at center (food/lodging/transport provided for $60 per day in country) 
•               $ 1900             airfare estimate
•               $   100             misc. travel meals, travel insurance
• Total:     $ 2420                 Minus possible $400 international grant and some assistance from SCDR.
